My Amal Journey

It has been 120,960 minutes since I started my Amal Journey and I know that all good things come to an end, but I did not expect it to happen this soon. Every minute that I have spent in this fellowship has taught me something, I’ve learnt new things, challenged myself, I have managed to step out of my comfort zone and most importantly I’ve made some amazing new friends.

When I look back at the start of my Amal Journey I remember before I joined I was so skeptical about how students would connect with each other in an online setting but I am so glad that this fellowship proved me wrong because when I look back, I can say for sure that I have made amazing friends since the start of this fellowship. I like to remember the first two weeks of my fellowship through my ‘Learning group’. I explicitly remember that in that group we always had different points and opinions about all our activities and project works but we never had any conflicts because all members were so respectful towards each other. However, we still managed to have so much fun in our learning group meetings that I looked forward to scheduling a weekly meeting.

I never considered that I could have leadership qualities, but becoming the leader of this group made me realize that I can lead people, and I love how a group member Umar, still calls me ‘leader’. It’s true that true friendships last forever, because even though we became members of different circles after two weeks the bonding is still the same.

I remember learning about SMART goals in my first two weeks of the fellowship, it was a completely new concept to me and I was excited and anxious at the same time to learn about them and develop my own SMART goals. At that time I put recycling in my SMART goals and actually started implementing this, I kept a box to collect any possessions that I was going to dispose but could be recycled.

I am really proud that I managed to keep this habit of not disposing things but rather re using them. I even reused this box to keep things.

I believe I was fortunate enough to start a mega project on this vision too and managed to make recycled products that I could use like this wall hanging

I believe I was fortunate enough to start my mega project on this vision too, and all this was made possible because of the values I learned in the first two weeks of Amal, especially grit and preservation, that has helped me manage all this even in difficult times.

It’s going to be a bittersweet feeling saying goodbye to this fellowship, but I will surely be taking a lot of good memories, friends and values with me.
